Plants on the Savanna
The snake on the left is known as the puff adder and it is the snake that causes the most snakebite fatalities throughout Africa. It is about 1 meter long and the males are usually longer than the females. These snakes feed on birds, amphibians, small mammals, and lizards.
Lions are the only cats that travel in packs, which are called prides. Male lions have manes; thick hair that surrounds their neck and hair. Female lions are the ones that do a lot of the hunting. They hunt down animals in groups which helps to make up for the fact that lots of animals in the the Savanna are faster than them.
Steenbok are a species of antelope with a short tail around 4-6 cm. Their coat is a generally a mild orange color and the underside of their chin is white. They drink very little water, retaining most of the liquid they need from the plants and fruit they eat.

Animals on the Savanna
The candelabra tree (as seen on the left) can grow up to 40 feet tall. It is a poisonous tree and if it's sap touches skin then it causes a blister. It will also cause blindness if it comes in contact with they eye. Even if you breathe in some of the fumes from the tree it can cause burns.
The umbrella thorn acacia is what normally comes to mind when you think of trees in the African savanna. It has canopy which is where the name "umbrella" comes from. The umbrella thorn acacia is extremely durable and is able to survive very high temperatures, high alkalinity, droughts, and sand storms. Some of the trees that have been alive for more than 2 years are even moderately frost resistant.
Elephant grass is a tall form of grass that can grow to be as high as 10 feet and is usually situated in clumps or clusters. It grows where the soil is rich so near rivers or streams. The grass is used as a home for some birds and its extremely sharp leaves make it very hard to tear.
